PG&E’s funding status is disputed.

High Fire-Threat District (HFTD) Tier 2–3, a High Fire Risk Area, or an Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) circuit. One per account. Not if you already used Disability Disaster Access & Resources (DDAR) or the Portable Battery Program.

PG&E rules

The Generator & Battery Rebate needs an active residential or business account. Over the limit: 1,024 Wh, 1,057 Wh, 2,000 Wh. The total cannot exceed the price. Not covered: shipping, solar panels, extra packs. Out: USB-only units, power banks, inverters, commercial stations.

Wildfire Safety Progress Map: green pre-qualifies, red does not. Buy, wait for delivery, then the rebate application with the receipt and proof of delivery.

Terms: first-come until funding runs out. Off the example list can still qualify at 290–1,000 Wh if not excluded. GeneratorBatteryRebateProgram@pge.com.

Funding conflict. The page takes applications through December 31, 2026. A UDPOWER blog updated August 27, 2026 says the 2026 program is full. PG&E’s page does not. Follow PG&E.

The Portable Battery Program is a free battery, delivered. You do not pick the model or apply. PG&E contacts you if you use a medical device, assistive technology, or durable medical equipment, you are on Medical Baseline or Self-Identified Vulnerable, and you had at least one Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) since 2024 or three or more EPSS outages since 2024.

DDAR can include a portable backup battery during a PSPS. One list: HFTD or two or more PSPS events since 2020. The other: HFTD only. Both also need an electric device, a disability or chronic condition, or reliance on electricity to live independently. Apply at disabilitydisasteraccess.org.

SCE

Check goes to the account owner. Check SCE’s list for your model before you buy.

SCE rules

The Portable Power Station Rebate: residential customer, active individually metered account, circuit SCE says may face a PSPS. Multifamily operators are excluded. Needs a 110V outlet, outlet charging, lithium cells, surge protection, and portability. USB-only and permanent stations are out. Apply on or after April 1, 2026. First-come until funding runs out.

Check the address on the outage status page, then apply on the marketplace. The backup power page also says up to $200. If your model is missing and you think it qualifies, email sce@care.enervee.com.

The $150 conflict. The terms page is the authority: $200, 180 days, up to five per address, and a PSPS circuit. On September 26, 2026 that page did not return its text and asked for a supported browser. The backup power page, re-read that day, says up to $200 for a PSPS area. The SGIP page, re-read that day, still says $150, a purchase within 90 days, and Tier 2 or Tier 3. Confirm the figure on the application.

Critical Care Backup Battery: free battery, three-year warranty, plus a solar kit, delivery, setup, and training. Needs a high fire-risk area, Medical Baseline, and a powered medical device. SCE matches the battery. First-come until funding runs out. Call 1-800-736-4777. Homeowners and renters can use it. Renters may need the owner’s written permission. Last read September 25, 2026.

SDG&E

HFTD Tier 2 or 3 and at least one PSPS. One power-station rebate per household. California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE), Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA), and Access and Functional Needs (AFN) are the higher amounts.

SDG&E rules

The Generator Assistance Program is for a new listed model bought in California in 2026. An earlier-year rebate blocks another. Qualifying customers get an email or a letter.

CARE / FERA: $200 ($150 plus $50) for current customers on those rates. Medical Baseline / AFN: $525. Each page says the 2026 program is open.

Buy from the February 27, 2026 qualified list. Post-purchase portable models run from 293 Wh to 768 Wh. Apply after you buy, or use an instant coupon at Home Depot or Lowe’s online. Standard and Medical Baseline: sdgegap.clearesult.com. CARE and FERA: sdgegapcare.clearesult.com. ResiliencySolutions@sdge.com.

Pacific Power

Names tenants. It does not cover taxes or shipping. The qualified list names the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro and the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max, and not the other stations in TrueWatt’s file.

Pacific Power rules

The California backup electric power rebate is for an active California account, as the customer or as a tenant. Pacific Power serves northern California. $300 on one generator or portable power station on the qualified list. CARE or Medical Baseline adds $500. One rebate per meter. The amount cannot exceed the price.

Buy on or after January 1, 2026 and before January 1, 2027. The terms say the application must arrive by January 31, 2027. First-come until funding runs out. Apply at the application with a photo of the receipt. PacPowerGenerator@resource-innovations.com.

The terms conflict. The program page is the public offer. The linked terms still require a Medical Certificate or a licensed facility, and they set the rebate at up to $1,000 for CARE, FERA, or a Medical Certificate, or up to $4,000 for a licensed facility. They also say a backup battery must be under 1 kWh. The qualified list includes larger stations. Confirm the amount on the application.

The qualified list includes Anker, BLUETTI, EcoFlow, Jackery, Goal Zero, and Champion.

The free portable battery, on the same page, is for a residential California account enrolled in both Medical Baseline and CARE. Pacific Power matches a battery after a needs assessment and delivers it. You do not pick the model. Pre-qualify at 1-888-221-7070. First-come until funding runs out.

Anaheim Public Utilities

Guidelines name apartments. Two per residential address.

Anaheim rules

The electric portable power station rebate is $50, or $200 on the Medical Lifeline Rate. The station must be battery powered and at least 100 W AC.

The guidelines count a single-family home, condominium, apartment, or mobile home in the Anaheim service area. Apply within one year of purchase, while funding lasts, at the rebate application. The amount cannot exceed the price. 714-408-4161 or anaheimrebates@egia.org.

Bear Valley Electric

Bear Valley Electric Service keeps six portable batteries to deploy to Medical Baseline customers during an outage. It is not an application program. See the 2026 Access and Functional Needs plan.

Do renters qualify?

Pacific Power names tenants. Anaheim names apartments. SCE’s free battery names renters. The other purchase rebates do not say homeowners only. A lease can still limit what you store.

PG&E’s purchase rebate needs any permit the product needs. Its free-battery programs do not require you to own the home. If a landlord holds the SCE account, the $200 check goes to them. Renters may need the owner’s written permission for Critical Care. SDG&E: if you did not get the email or letter, email ResiliencySolutions@sdge.com before you buy.

What this page leaves out

Wall batteries need installation. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Pasadena, and other city utilities are not covered. Anaheim Public Utilities is the exception.

Can I get a free battery and a rebate for one I buy?

PG&E says no if you already took part in DDAR or the Portable Battery Program. SDG&E says an earlier Generator Assistance Program rebate blocks another one.

Do I buy before I apply?

Yes, except SCE’s free battery and PG&E’s free programs. Purchase rebates: buy first, then apply with the receipt. SDG&E also offers an instant coupon at Home Depot or Lowe’s online.
